It’s all about women this month — August 1 was Girlfriend’s Day, August 3 was Sisters Day, August 4 is Working Women’s Day and August 26 is Women’s Equality Day. There’s no doubt that August is dedicated to the power of women and the relationships we cultivate, in and out of the workroom. We’re taking a moment to honor our closest friends and female family members because without them we wouldn’t be who we are. They are our rocks. They are always by our side. Wherever we are these important women are a part of us. Think best friends and dynamic duo Amy Pohler and Tina Fey, it’s hard to think of one without the other.

It’s also difficult to imagine a world where women were not accepted as equal. Today, women are accepted as powerful figures, matriarchs of society, and are among the leading political leaders and business people in the world. When we were given the right to vote August 26, 1920, women were given a voice and were no longer going to be stopped at the voting booth.

Some of the most powerful women in history include first ladies, writers, fashion designers, doctors, singers, actresses, models and business owners. Think Marie Curie, Coco Chanel Jackie O, Sandra Bullock, Diana Vreeland, Rosa Parks and J.K. Rowling. But it’s not just the work these women did that we appreciate so much. These women lead the way for young girls to create their own path of success. Very much like our grandmothers, mothers, daughters and sisters, they are living inspirations.

Think of your closest friend, your daughter, or your mom and take a moment to appreciate how much they have enriched your lives. Be grateful for your life, for the ability to shape your own path and for just being able to be you. Cheers to August! Cheers to girl power!
